.MOBI Domain Name Registrations
More and more people use mobile devices to access web content, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To fulfill this demand, the entity that manages the generic top-level domain extensions, ICANN, introduced the .MOBI extension in 2005. The first registrations were started in September 2006, and the intention behind this extension is that all websites that use it need to comply with certain restrictions. In other words, all .MOBI websites must be built to be accessed correctly by mobile devices in agreement with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” drawn by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in partnership with the dot MOBI Registry. These have to do with how a website is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), and so on.
The requirements have induced some questions considering that the universal top-level extension is the only one that specifies what devices should be able to open a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a website should be designed in such a way as to be accessed by the majority of browsers and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
Given the fact that the dot MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can register a dot MOBI domain with any third-party firm, such as ours.
